Jenna Perry talking trust, tresses & true romance

Jenna Perry talking trust, tresses & true romance

Jenna Perry is known for creating the most iconic looks for fashion's favorite faces (and tresses). But we'd argue that Jenna is just as much of a muse as her it-girl clients.

For this week's SIDIA Stories, we talked to Jenna about creative inspiration and how hair is linked to our identity.

The first place we go with these interviews is always around matriarchs and the influence of strong women. So we’d love to know: who are the women who’ve touched your life the most?

"I am blessed to be surrounded by some of the most influential and courageous women daily. My mom has been the biggest influence in my life. She’s shown me the true meaning of helping others, always leading with kindness and empathy. She’s taught me the value of dedication and perseverance through her work ethic. Watching her has shaped not just how I work, but how I connect with others and live my life."

"For fictional characters, I would say Alabama Worley from True Romance. She embodies a mix of strength, vulnerability, and fierce loyalty. Her unapologetic passion, her free spirit, and ability to embrace love and adventure wholeheartedly have always been inspiring qualities. Her character has always been a reminder to follow your instincts and embrace life’s wild ride." Whether it’s a family heirloom or a simple souvenir, If you had to pick one treasured item in your collection that reminds you most of these women, what would it be?

"My gold jewelry. My grandmother and the women in my family always bought me jewelry. Necklaces, rings, bracelets — I still have all of it. Jewelry is such a piece of one's identity." Building on that, what’s your favorite thing about working in a woman-focused industry like beauty and running a woman-powered business like JPH?

"My favorite thing is the sense of community and connection. Beauty brings people together in such a unique way, and at JPH, it’s about more than just hair. It’s about creating a space where women feel supported, confident, and part of something bigger. Working with such a talented team makes it even more special."

"Hair is so personal because it’s tied to our identity and how we present ourselves to the world."

We feel like the relationship between hair stylist and client is underrated in its intimacy. What role do vulnerability and trust play in your relationships with clients?

"The relationship between a hairstylist and their client is deeply personal. Sitting in the chair often means letting your guard down, whether it's sharing parts of your life or taking a risk on a new look. So trust is the foundation of everything. From the technical side of delivering a desired result to making clients feel heard and valued, that trust allows us to create not just great hair but a great connection."

For many women, hair carries so much weight — it’s such an important part of their look, but even sometimes of their identity. Why do you think we have so much emotion connected to our hair?

"Hair is so personal because it’s tied to our identity and how we present ourselves to the world. For many women, it’s not just about looking good, it’s about feeling confident. A hair transformation can symbolize something bigger, like a fresh start or a new chapter, which makes it an emotional experience. Hair is a form of self-expression that holds meaning for each person."

On that note, what lessons have you learned from being part of how women use hair as a medium to express evolving stages in their lives, whether it's recovery, celebration, or reinvention?

"I’ve learned that hair is often a reflection of what someone is going through—whether it’s recovery, celebration, or a rebrand. Every change tells a story, and it’s amazing to be part of helping someone feel like the best version of themselves. It’s taught me how powerful hair can be in expressing growth and transformation. Like I always say, hair is the best accessory."

Do you have any rituals, routines, or practices that help you stay inspired in your work and reconnect with your passion for your craft?

"My favorite part of working in beauty and running JPH is helping women feel confident and creating such a fun environment and community. It’s amazing to see how women can inspire each other."
