Sasha Exeter on sharing the good, the bad, and the honest on her social platforms

Sasha Exeter on sharing the good, the bad, and the honest on her social platforms

In a world of beauty filters and phony brand promos, creator Sasha Exeter’s authenticity is her superpower. Whether she’s sharing a grueling workout routine, dishing on the realities of raising kids, or advocating for better representation in the fashion community, Sasha keeps it real — like, really real. And that makes her connection with her followers like, really real too.  She’s made a name for herself in the influencer world not only as a source of dreamy style and wellness inspiration but also as a voice for no-bullshit, straight talk about her real life.

We chatted with Sasha about how she stays true to herself in an industry full of superficiality, the ways motherhood fuels her career, and what project will get the Sasha treatment next.

At SIDIA, we think matriarchs rule the world. And you definitely fall into that category for us. Who are the strong women that have touched you most in your life?

"Oh wow - THANK YOU! Great minds think alike because I think the same thing about matriarchs. My mom is my forever icon.  That might sound predictable. but she really is and I feel super blessed that my first role model was her: a corporate girlie working in publishing when I was growing up. I remember at a very young age wondering how she was seemingly able to do it all at work and still be the most phenomenal mother to us. Without a doubt, my work ethic and the mother I am to my daughter Maxwell 100% comes from her."

"As for the rest of the ladies, I keep my circles extremely small these days. I'd rather have four quarters, than one hundred pennies. I have the most incredible crew of women around me who I adore, admire and look up to. They’re women running successful companies and brands. Most are mothers and who exemplify strength in so many ways and understand the power of community. Even the strongest women need support sometimes and these ladies provide me with strength when I need it most."

On that topic, there are few creators who share motherhood the way you do on your platform. It’s such an inspiration to us. We love keeping up with you and Maxwell. How has Maxwell (and motherhood) inspired your career?

"Becoming a mother has naturally changed the way I see the world. I am able to live certain experiences through her eyes, which is fun and comes out in some of my content. That being said, the journey that is motherhood ain’t easy.. I know it's easy to sometimes think you're not doing a great job based on what you see others doing online. So I think it's important to show all aspects - the good and the bad. Because none of us truly have it all together. We are all just doing the best we can at the end of the day."

"But what I think Maxwell has really done is motivate me to work even harder than before. I want my work ethic and the goals I reach to inspire my daughter to dream big and reach for the stars."

You’ve always been unapologetically yourself on social media, but we know it’s hard to drown out constant critique from the (often loud and wrong) trolls online. Has there ever been a story or opinion you’ve hesitated to share on your pages? Why/why didn’t you end up sharing it?

"Listen, drowning out the critique and negative chatter is extremely challenging, not going to lie. When it pops up, the negative noise always seems louder than the positive, even if it's only a handful of comments. I have definitely had what I like to refer to as "Posting Paralysis" when it comes to sharing certain things, but then I remind myself that it's my life and my account... and I can share whatever I want/feel."

"I don't think there's been an instance where I have changed my mind and not posted something out of fear. I always trust my gut instinct and know that if I am feeling something, chances are someone else is feeling or going through the same thing— and I post that shit."

"It has become increasingly challenging to find a happy place on the internet. I find happiness in the corners of the internet that are spreading actual joy, random acts of kindness and anything creative: architecture, art, and fashion."

From activewear with Joe Fresh to a custom tea blend with Tetley, we love seeing how you apply the Sasha touch to brand projects. What collaboration is next on your partnership wishlist? (Spoilers for future projects welcome… 👀)

"My greatest joy in my career so far has been working on collaborations and design projects with brands. I feel like I spent the better part of 3.5 years pumping out projects and strategically decided to take a very much needed break to recalibrate, rest and think about what it is I would like to do next. I am so proud of the success of these brand collaborations, but I think the next step may involve me doing something on my own... and that's all I can say at this point."
